Junior Teaching Assistant

German University in Cairo · · New Cairo, Egypt

I supported four core computer science lab courses, helping more than 80 students translate course concepts into working solutions across Java, data structures, Prolog, Haskell, and SQL.

Teaching scope

  • CSEN202: Introduction to Computer Programming
  • CSEN301: Data Structures and Algorithms
  • CSEN403: Concepts of Programming Languages
  • CSEN501: Database I

Recognition

A supervising teaching assistant described my work in the Introduction to Computer Programming labs as professional, reliable, proactive, and independent.

Teaching Responsibilities

Lab support

  • Lab sessions across four courses: programming fundamentals, data structures, language concepts, and databases
  • Mentoring for more than 80 students on Java fundamentals and common data structures
  • Prolog and Haskell syntax and logic for the language-concepts course
  • Introductory SQL and relational-database concepts for Database I

Technical & Teaching Skills

Technical skills

Java, Data structures, Prolog, Haskell, SQL

Working style

Mentoring, Technical communication, Session planning

Problems & Handling

The four courses were conceptually far apart (imperative programming, data structures, logic and functional languages, databases), and supporting all of them well in the same term meant none of them could get shortchanged.

I made notes for the Prolog and Haskell labs, instead of relying on general familiarity, so switching from an imperative-Java lab to a Prolog lab didn't cost session quality.
